About The Project
The NW Tyler Project will be constructed in two Phases, with the first Phase being constructed in 2022 and the second Phase scheduled for Construction in 2023. Phase 1 will reconstruct NW Tyler from NW Lyman Road to NW Beverly Street in 2022. The Phase 2 project will construct NW Tyler from NW Beverly Street to NW Paramore Street. The project will reconstruct NW Tyler Road as a 2-lane concrete road with 11-foot lanes, curb and gutter, and a 5’ sidewalk on the west side of the road. The project will also construct underground storm sewer and remove the road side ditches along the road. A 10’ concrete shared use path is scheduled to be constructed through a KDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant on the east side of the road in 2023. An 8” water main will also be relocated along the road from Lyman to Paramore in 2022.

The project was initiated out of North Topeka West Neighborhood Plan that was adopted by the City Council in 2016. This neighborhood plan identified the reconstruction of NW Tyler as a main priority of the neighborhood. The Guiding Principles of the Neighborhood Plan that were included in the design of the project includes:
Create a pedestrian corridor using “Complete Streets” principles
Mark parks and trails more visible, accessible, and ‘kid friendly’
Create pedestrian streetscapes and connect to amenities
Capacity to support future development
Eliminate ditches and add curb & gutter
Reduce truck traffic
Lower vehicle speeds
Use appropriate street width
Public Facilities & Services Goal
“Provide infrastructure and improvements to the North Topeka West neighborhood that demonstrate vitality and commitment to continued improvements in the quality of life of the residents.”
